Sofia Central Bus Station

The
new Sofia bus-station is constructed
as an entire modern transport complex, complying with the
modern requirements of such public buildings. The bus
station fully is air-conditioned. There
are more than 130 CCTV cameras,
toilets with access for disabled, shops, restaurant, cafe
and bank branch at the first floor of the
station spread on area of more than 1500 sq.m area.
The buss station is close to Sofia Train station easing
the transfer from bus to a train and vice versa. In the current

Travel by Train
Train times London to Sofia:

Travel from London to Paris by
Eurostar, leaving London (Waterloo) at 12:09 (5 minutes
earlier on Sundays) and arriving at Paris Nord at 15:59. Walk
from the Gare du Nord to the nearby Gare de l'Est.

Travel from Paris to Vienna on the
'Orient Express', leaving Paris Gare de l'Est at 17:17 and
arriving in Vienna at 08:30 next morning. This is of course the
real Orient Express, not the expensive tourist one - see the
Orient Express
page for an explanation. The Orient Express has comfortable
modern air-conditioned Austrian
couchettes (4-berth and 6-berth), and a modernised
sleeping-car with 1- 2- and 3-bed rooms with washbasin.

Travel from Vienna to Budapest on
air-conditioned InterCity train 'Avala', leaving Vienna at 10:03
and arriving in Budapest (Keleti station) at 12:58. A restaurant
car is available, and a small supplement is payable. Travel from
Budapest to Sofia on the 'TransBalkan' via Romania. The 'TransBalkan'
leaves Budapest Keleti station daily at 19:15 with ordinary seats
(not recommended) and a
sleeping-car (1- 2- and 3-bed rooms with washbasin, the
recommended option) for Sofia, arriving 21:30 the next day. It is
routed via Bucharest in Romania.
